A Journey to Eretz Israel: Reflections from the Heart

“What emanates from the heart, penetrate the heart” - Chazal (Talmudic Sages)
Expressing my feelings about my experience as a participant on the Israel Bonds Executive Mission to Israel earlier this year, is very difficult for me. It was a journey unlike any other visits or missions my husband and I have had the opportunity to undertake in Eretz Israel - a trip where emotions intertwined and clashed within me.
There were conflicting feelings: between pain and joy, between courage and satisfaction born from pride, between frustration and admiration. There was pain for what has happened, for what our people have endured.
The October 7th attack had been planned for many years. The youth at the festival were targeted because the attackers aimed to strike against anyone they can, including ambulances and kibbutz residents. The killings and the captivity of hostages, recognition of the reactions, and the resilience of our people brought mixed emotions. Courage and anger were sparked by the destruction, death, abuse, and violations. Yet, there was also, unity, pride, and a renewed commitment of belonging to the people of Israel because of their unity and actions. And there was frustration over the world's reaction.
This is who we are as Yehudim - the Jewish nation
This journey made it clear who we are, who our enemies are, and what the world is like. I felt admiration and respect for every Jew, every Israeli. Their response to tragedy, their unity and participation, their strength to overcome adversity and move forward—this is who we are as Yehudim – the Jewish nation. Am Yisrael Chai Ve Kayam! – The people of Israel forever
As Jewish parents and grandparents, we strive to involve our children, grandchildren, and the broader community. On this particular trip, participants shared their observations, thoughts, and feelings from the moment we began preparing for the journey. It was a life lesson beautifully organized by Israel Bonds. We have traveled with various institutions on different missions, but Israel Bonds undoubtedly provides the best way to understand and experience Medinat Israel with the highest standards.
Among the sites and experiences, we encountered were an image of a broken heart, photos of hostages, the Har Herzl Memorial, the Iron Dome, and a blood donation drive. It was overwhelming to see and realize the destruction, how people had been burned, the monument of charred cars at the Nova Festival site, the hallowed-out homes of the kibbutzim, and so much more. We have the responsibility to pass on the torch, to teach our children, our neighbors, and the world that never again is now.
Thank you again to the Israel Bonds team and to everyone who made this unforgettable and deeply moving journey possible.
