More Than a Gift: A Bond with Israel

The 2026 Maccabiah Games were marked by great achievements, emotion, and a profound sense of unity and pride in Israel. For the Brazilian delegation, the third-largest delegation at the Games with approximately 380 participants, the experience was especially memorable.
Among the many moments that defined their time in Israel was a unique and meaningful gesture made possible through the generosity of donors who wish to remain anonymous, every member of the Brazilian delegation received a $36 Israel Bond, making Brazil the only delegation at the 2026 Maccabiah Games where every participant received an Israel Bond.
Much more than a gift, it was a meaningful reminder of their role in Israel’s story and a reflection of the deep commitment between Brazil’s Jewish community and the State of Israel. For many participants, this was their first introduction to Israel Bonds and the important role they have played in strengthening Israel since its independence. Receiving an Israel Bond during the Maccabiah Games gave them a tangible way to participate in that story, taking home not only memories of the Games and their time in Israel, but also a lasting reminder of their experience.
From the moment the Brazilian delegation stepped into Teddy Stadium for the opening ceremony, their presence was impossible to miss. Waving green-and-yellow flags, singing, dancing, and bringing the unmistakable rhythm of samba, they filled the stadium with energy and pride as they joined thousands of athletes from around the world for the Maccabiah Games in Israel.
That same passion carried throughout the competition. Brazil delivered a historic performance, finishing third in the overall medal standings with 57 medals: 18 gold, 21 silver, and 18 bronze. It was an outstanding achievement that filled athletes, families, and the wider Brazilian Jewish community with tremendous pride. Adding to this milestone, Brazil also sent its first-ever women’s basketball team to compete at the Maccabiah Games, marking another important moment in the delegation’s history.
Our deepest gratitude goes to the anonymous donors who made this meaningful gift possible. Their generosity gave hundreds of Brazilian participants more than an Israel Bond; it gave them a lasting reminder that they are part of Israel’s future.
