Police Attitudes in a Post–7 October World
A sensitive yet often overlooked topic brought us together with the SABABA Club for students and young professionals within the Frankfurt Jewish Community, to explore the role and attitude of the police towards Jews and Israel: past, present, and in light of current developments.
The event, held on 2 December 2025, in partnership with Israel Bonds, with Managing Director Michael Grauss introducing the organisation’s work. One participant also shared his positive experience purchasing an Israel Bond, offering a personal testimonial.
We then welcomed Olli Kos, a Frankfurt police officer and committed supporter of Israel, who delivered a powerful and thought-provoking lecture. Drawing on his first-hand experiences, he spoke candidly about what he has witnessed in the field, the challenges he encounters, and the importance he places on open dialogue and genuine understanding.
The packed room explored key questions such as: How has the general attitude of police officers towards Jews and Israel evolved over the past 30 years? Since 7 October 2023, what has changed in day-to-day police work regarding security, social pressure, and combating extremism? Which factors, training, public discourse, media coverage, political developments, or personal experiences, have driven these shifts?
After the lecture and Q&A, guests enjoyed an Israeli buffet of salads, burekas, pitot, and falafel, catered by Makkabi Shalom, with plenty of time to mingle and continue the conversation.
