On Sunday, 27 June, the last day of the seminar weekend that was hosted by the Central Welfare of Jews in Germany (ZWST) and the Association of Jewish Students in Hesse (VJSH) took place in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The seminar was dedicated to the thirtieth anniversary of the Jewish immigration to Germany from the former Soviet Union, and young Jewish professionals from all over Germany joined together to have an exchange about the central question of the event: “Thirty years of immigration. Finally at home?” After many interesting panels and seminars, we concluded the weekend by visiting the recently opened Jewish Museum in Frankfurt and had drinks sponsored by Israel Bonds.
The VJSH, the organization that I am happy to be the president of, is the community for Jewish students and young professionals from all over the state
of Hesse, Germany. Not only do we organize events, such as seminars and regulars’ tables, but we also represent our members and all of those who fall
into the category of potential members. We represent them at events of a
political nature, such as meetings with politicians and also at meetings with officials in other spheres.

On June 27th, The Central Board of Jewish Welfare organized a seminar for a group of young professionals who represent the second generation of Jews who had immigrated from the FSU to Germany after the fall of the Iron Curtain. These young people, now in their twenties, are now emerging with a unique identity that distinguishes them from the historical background of their parents, and also reflects their current lifestyle as part of German society.
Israel Bonds Germany was delighted to be invited to host a lunch on the final day of the seminar in the newly opened Jewish Museum in Frankfurt.
These future leaders will one day shape the Jewish community here in Germany.
Introducing Israel Bonds as a means of support for the State of Israel was a meaningful and exciting opportunity for us. The participants were impressed by learning of the history of support Israel Bonds has provided to the State of Israel since its founding and the subsequent milestones that have been reached, and this knowledge opened a new perspective for them on how the Diaspora can support Israel.
“Engaging the next generation is very important to us, because these future leaders will one day shape the Jewish community here in Germany. Israel Bonds has the ability to provide them with a network of interesting contacts and events to attend all over the world, and we can also we can show them a means, aside from straightforward philanthropy, of expressing their solidarity with the Jewish State. ,” said Michael Grauss, Executive Director of Israel Bonds in Germany.
“The conversations we had that day proved that the bond between young Jews in the Diaspora and Israel
is strong and vibrant, and that Israel Bonds has an important role to play in strengthening this
connection even further.”
“We were very happy that for the first offline seminar we organized after a long time we partnered with Israel Bonds again and continued our fruitful cooperation, ” added Aron Schuster, Director of the Central Welfare
Board of Jews in Germany.
