Suella Braverman Reflects on Emotional Israel Visit at Manchester Event.

Israel Bonds and the British Israel Chamber of Commerce had the privilege of hosting former British Home Secretary, RT Hon. Suella Braverman, in Manchester on Friday, 10 May 2024. At Manchester Hall, Braverman delivered an emotional address, reflecting on her recent visit to Israel where she met survivors of the October 7 massacre, including those from the Nova festival and Kibbutz Kfar Aza. She spoke of meeting parents whose daughters were kidnapped, and the anguish they felt approaching the nine-month mark of their captivity under Hamas.

Braverman admired the resilience of affected families, particularly a mother whose soldier son was kidnapped
and murdered, yet still expressed immense pride in her children's service to Israel, saying, "I couldn’t be prouder of what my children have given to their country, their home, their people." Suella also shared about her visit with families from northern Israel, displaced due to the ongoing barrage of rockets by Hezbollah in Lebanon. She highlighted the global threat posed by Iran, stating that future foreign policy will be a struggle between autocracy and democracy.

Addressing the domestic situation in Britain since October 7th, Braverman criticised the police's handling of anti Israel marches, expressing concern over their lack of seriousness in protecting the Jewish community. She apologised on behalf of the police and government for the insecurity and threats faced by the Jewish community.

Suella Braverman has twice served as Home Secretary, a key role in British politics overseeing national security,
immigration, and law enforcement. Elected as the MP for Fareham in 2015, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service. Her background includes degrees from prestigious institutions and significant contributions as Attorney General under Boris Johnson, where she focused on public law and judicial review.

The event was an opportunity for all who came to hear from the former home secretary about her experiences
in office and in Israel, while also having the chance to mingle in one of Manchester’s historic venues.
