A Tapestry of Lessons Learned from Remarkable Women.

Laura Orzy
Israel Bonds Women’s Division International, Chair

My involvement with Israel Bonds stems from my deep devotion to the State of Israel and Zionism. I have been actively engaged with Israel Bonds and the Women’s Division since 2011, when my family and I lived in Toronto, Canada. My journey started as my eldest son was about to become a Bar Mitzvah, and I was fortunate to receive the support of the Women’s Division Director, who introduced me to the incredible members of the Women’s Division Council. They welcomed me with open arms and set me on a path that has had a lasting and meaningful impact on my life.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving in multiple leadership roles, including Chair of the Women’s Division in Toronto, Chair of the National Women’s Division of the U.S. and Canada, and now Chair of the International Women’s Division of Israel Bonds.

From the beginning I’ve been inspired by the unwavering dedication and resilience of countless lay leaders. Working alongside remarkable women, who support Israel Bonds and the State of Israel through their leadership, unity, and perseverance, is an honour. Their commitment, creativity, and volunteerism continue to inspire me.

Throughout this journey I’ve learned many valuable lessons, the most significant being that no challenge is insurmountable. Whether standing firm against antisemitism, or advocating for Israel, the strength and perseverance of these women are a constant source of motivation.  The collaborative spirit within our councils fosters respect and unity, leading to fruitful outcomes and meaningful relationships. The friendships formed along the way are invaluable, and I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside such extraordinary women.

Our leadership in various cities and countries plays a crucial role in strengthening local communities and understanding the unique dynamics of each community has been central to our success. This deep connection and insight have been key to the remarkable achievements we celebrate today.

The invaluable support I receive from the professional staff at Israel Bonds—across Canada, the U.S., and our international offices have been instrumental in helping accomplish our goals. Through their expertise, guidance, and experience I have been supported and encouraged every step of the way.

Perhaps the most profound lesson I’ve learned is that, despite international borders, our diverse backgrounds, cultures, and languages, we are united by a shared love for our communities and the State of Israel.

United in Our Love for Israel and Passion for Strengthening the Jewish Nation

Anat Eckstein
Israel Bonds Women’s Division International, Germany Chair

Since August 2023, I have had the privilege of serving as the Israel Bonds Women’s Division Chair in Germany where I have met amazing women who have inspired me and contributed to my personal growth. I’ve had the opportunity to meet many new people and to engage with women who devote their time, energy and efforts supporting the Israeli cause.

Israel has faced significant challenges in its short history, particularly since 7 October 2023. Although we all come from different backgrounds, with different professions and cultures, we share a deep unity in our love for Israel and passion for strengthening the Jewish nation. This unity strengthens our common cause and has a multiplier effect, so that when individual contributions are combined, the outcome is far greater than the sum of its parts.

I have also learned that true leadership is not about titles or wealth. It’s about inspiring and motivating others and leading by example to achieve a higher purpose that improves our society and upholds our values. Another important aspect I’ve gained from my fellow women in the community is the invaluable guidance I receive. They are always there to support me, provide answers and give advice, regardless of how busy they are with their personal and professional lives and often at short notice.

Furthermore, the women in my community taught me the power of resilience. No matter the challenges and setbacks they face, these women always keep their spirits up and continue in their mission of supporting Israel, never giving up. Finally, I have learned from them a deep sense of selflessness and a strong commitment to contribute to society in a truly altruistic manner.

For all these reasons, I am very thankful to have the opportunity in this position to meet such inspiring women with whom I work together to achieve a common goal.

The Women of Brazil are Empowered and Inspiring

Patricia Lisbona Fuchs & Elisa Nigri Griner
Israel Bonds Women’s Division International, Brazil Co-Chairs

Patricia Lisbona Fuchs & Elisa Nigri Griner Since biblical times, women have played a fundamental role in building the Jewish people. Our matriarchs – Sarah, Rivka, Rachel and Leah – were not just wives and mothers; they were leaders and decision-makers who shaped the destiny of our people. This strength has been passed down from generation to generation and remains alive in our community today.

Women in the Jewish community play a fundamental role in building a strong, welcoming and dynamic Jewish environment. With their dedication, hands-on work and spirit of unity, they leave a legacy.

Here in Brazil, it is no different. The strength of women is woven into everything that happens around us. They organize, welcome, mobilize and transform ideas into action. When something needs to be done, all it takes is a conversation, a few messages, or a call – and before you know it, an entire movement is born.

Whether it’s helping those in need, preserving traditions, teaching future generations, or creating new ways to strengthen the community, they always find a way to make a difference. They understand that true impact lies in continuity, construction, and collective action.

An essential lesson lies in the strength of sisterhood. When women support each other and work together, challenges turn into opportunities, and the impact of initiatives becomes even greater. Their commitment to the community, shown through acts of solidarity and collaboration, strengthens bonds and expands possibilities.

Furthermore, it’s clear that even small actions can generate great transformations. Every contribution, no matter how small it may seem, holds value and the potential to shape the future. The commitment and dedication of these women demonstrate that significant changes happen through collective effort and the desire to make a difference.

The example set by these women underscores the importance of continuous learning, collaboration, and commitment to a better future. Their role in the community is a reflection of the remarkable ability of women to transform realities and leave a lasting impact.

Golda Meir has highlighted the remarkable courage women must possess to overcome challenges and transform realities. And that is exactly what we see in the Jewish communities of Brazil. Women who don’t wait for things to happen – they make them happen. When there’s a need, they mobilize. When there’s a challenge, they find solutions. When there’s a cause, they lead with strength and determination.

They are the beating heart of our community.

They teach, welcome, preserve traditions and, at the same time, innovate. They are mothers, professionals, volunteers, friends, counselors – and often all of these at once. But, above all, they are the beating heart of our community, keeping alive the essence of what it means to be Jewish: caring for one another and building a better future.

The greatest lesson we can learn is that the strength of a community lies in its unity. Just like the matriarchs and like Golda Meir, each one of us has the power to transform the world – one step, one action, and one choice at a time.

Since the 7th of October, this mobilization has become increasingly solid and strong, with women initiating and organizing many actions for the release of the hostages. Women's groups have also been formed throughout Israel, where women exchange ideas, thoughts and information daily, providing an excellent support network. Women who didn’t know each other have become friends and allies, united around common interests, support for Israel, Jewish heritage, the fight against anti-semitism and unity.

We’re also witnessing more and more women occupying influential positions in our institutions with many now establishing women’s divisions! At Israel Bonds we too created a solid and active Women’s Division with 30 active women committed to Israel! What we’ve realized is that while alone we are strong, together we are unbeatable!

Women Rise Together in France

Isabelle Amsallem
Israel Bonds Women’s Division International, France Co-Chair

Isabelle Amsallem As Israel Bonds’ Women’s Division International Co-Chair in France, I have had the privilege of working alongside extraordinary women whose dedication, strength, and generosity continue to inspire me.

These women have shown me that true impact comes from unity. Despite diverse backgrounds, we share an unwavering commitment to supporting Israel and each other, demonstrating the power of community in driving meaningful change. One example is Ann Laure, a pharmacist and active member of the Pharmadom Foundation, where volunteer pharmacists have repeatedly sent emergency medicines to Israel for the underprivileged people, demonstrating the power of collective action.

In Lyon, following October 7, groups of women rose to action, each driven by her own commitment and sense of purpose, dedicating their time and energy to organizing impactful actions and meaningful events, always with generosity and from the heart. What we're experiencing is a truly powerful women's movement rooted in resilience and leadership.

Through them, I’ve learned that leadership is built on community, perseverance, and generosity.

Because we are all daughters, mothers, sisters and grandmothers, we are united in our support for one another, infinitely strong and compassionate.

Many of these women have overcome great challenges with grace and determination. Their resilience has taught me that setbacks are opportunities for growth. They lead not for recognition but out of passion and purpose, making a real difference through their dedication. I saw this firsthand when a group of women in our community organized trips to Israel to visit the sick, support soldiers and assist farmers in harvesting their fields. Others organized Hafrachat Challa gatherings, where women gathered to pray for the release of the hostages and the protection of the soldiers through the powerful Mitzvah- Commandment of Separating the Challah

Through them, I’ve learned that leadership is built on community, perseverance, and generosity. Their impact extends far beyond the present, shaping a stronger future for both our community and Israel.

How proud we are to belong to the people of Israel!

Am Israël Haï 🎗️ Bring Them Home Now.

Empowered by Unity on My Journey with
Women’s Division in Mexico

Linda Abadi de Sirazi
Israel Bonds Women’s Division International, Mexico Outgoing Chair

Linda Abadi de Sirazi When I took the role as the Women's Division Chair in Mexico, I didn’t know exactly what to expect. It was my first time leading a team, and although the challenge was great, I was never alone. From day one, I was surrounded by exceptional women who not only supported me but also followed my lead, encouraged me, and helped me grow as a leader and as a person.

I learned that leadership is not a solitary path but a collective effort. Every member of the Women’s Division council I worked with taught me something valuable: the importance of passion, perseverance, creativity, solidarity, and teamwork. Together, we dreamed, we developed projects, overcame challenges and achieved great things, sharing a common purpose: our love for Israel.

They were always there for me, cheering me on and reminding me that no goal is unattainable when there is commitment and unity.

Together, we infused ourselves and each other with a deep commitment to Israel and strengthening that bond.

Linda, alongside her parents Isaac and Esther, whose unwavering support has carried her always.

Linda, alongside her parents Isaac and Esther, whose unwavering support has carried her always.

But this journey started earlier, with the first amazing woman I met. Since I was a child, my mother has been an inspiration to me. Through her example, she taught me what dedication, commitment, and love for Israel truly mean. Her teachings guided me and made me feel that no matter the distance, there is always something we can do to support and strengthen our bond with our homeland. Thanks to her, I learned about Israel Bonds and had the opportunity to travel alongside her on several Israel Bonds delegations, bringing me closer to this incredible family.

Today, as I close this chapter and pass the torch to the next Women’s division chair in Mexico, my heart is filled with gratitude for everything we accomplished together in the last 6 years. I want to take this opportunity to thank each of the women in my committee for all that I have learned from them, for walking this path with me, for trusting me, and for showing me that together, we can achieve extraordinary things.

Linda, centre, with Yemy, the incoming Chair, and Saul Kisel, as they celebrate Linda’s leadership and the lasting impact of her six years of service.

I know this committee is in the best hands. I have complete confidence that, with Yemy’s passion and vision, we will continue with the same dedication, to Israel and Israel Bonds. To support Israel is to believe in its promise, its resilience, and its future. It means uplifting our people, preserving our values, and playing a role in Israel’s continued success.

Being the Women’s Division Chair in Mexico has been an honour and an invaluable learning experience that I will carry with me always.

This is not a farewell. It’s not a goodbye. I am not leaving – because once you get involved with Israel Bonds, it’s a part of your life, and the people become your family. I will always be here to support and remain a part of this mission that unites us so deeply.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this opportunity.

Saluting Amazing Women

Gillian Perry MBE,
Israel Bonds Women’s Division International, UK Chair

Gillian Perry When I took on the role of Chair of Israel Bonds UK women’s division in the summer of 2022, I thought the main benefit would be priding myself that I was doing something very positive for the remarkable State of Israel. What I didn’t anticipate was the bonus it would bring with the opportunity to engage with some truly fabulous women. These are both our British women and, through the International Chairs’ meeting led by our inspirational leader Laura Orzy, women from France, Germany, Brazil and Mexico.  Each country brings a new perspective, and through their lens, ways of appreciating the Jewish homeland and diaspora communities.

The UK women’s division was set up in the halcyon pre-Covid days of 2019. Its mission was to expand engagement with Israel Bonds, by arranging attractive events that would appeal to women, who would in turn become new clients. Of course, when Israel Bonds was created in the years following Israel’s birth, most women did not have an independent voice in the family financial planning and left it to their husbands to make investment and philanthropic decisions. How times have changed!

The irony of this is that many of those on the UK and international women’s divisions hold important roles in financial institutions, including the London Stock Exchange and some of our most renowned investment companies; own their own property companies and other businesses; or are professionals, such as accountants. Supporting their efforts is Israel Bonds Senior Sales Executive Orit Usharovsky, who brings her own expertise and experience with as a seasoned relationship manager in the private banking world. It is such a pleasure to spend time with such accomplished, yet modest and caring, women.

Over the past few years of our existence, our women’s division events have been quite varied, but bound by our appreciation of great women. Two years ago, we were guided around the stunning Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Collection of art treasures at the Victoria and Albert Museum by expert senior curator Alice Minton, whose knowledge and passion were boundless. This was followed by our International Women’s Day event held at the EF MediSpa salon in St John’s Wood, set up by Esther Fieldgrass, who intensively studied holistic treatments and products for many years before opening her chain of salons.

Last summer we found ourselves at the riverside home of Frances Segelman, renowned sculptor, whose commissions have included notables from Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth and many Royal Family members to arts and sporting celebrities, and most importantly many of our diminishing number of Holocaust survivors. Just this year, we have hosted Idit Ohel, the heartbroken, yet indefatigable, mother of 24 year old Alon Ohel, a young aspiring musician who remains a Hamas hostage. And for our recent International Women’s Day event, we hosted Shai Kaplan from Israel, whose story held us all spellbound. Shai had been diagnosed as a teenager with an inoperable brain tumour which had left her seriously physically impaired. Her perfect English had been honed as a teenager when she arrived at an American summer camp and realised she had to communicate in English. This she achieved within a few days of arrival. Equally determined to have a quality of life physically she studied yoga in India under Dr BKS Iyengar, founder of the Iyengar branch of yoga, remaining there for six years under his tutelage. Shai is now such a highly regarded yoga practitioner in her own right that she works in many Israeli hospitals training patients and staff and is also commissioned by the European Union.

At each Israel Bonds Women’s Division event, I get to meet more fascinating women, who have been brought along by our committee members, and have interesting stories to share.  Consequently, I can foresee the Women’s Divisions in Europe and in Central and Latin America, having a huge impact on the growth of Israel Bonds for many foreseeable years.
